The Big Dig

The School of Irish Archaeology came to St. Clare's this week. They brought a replica ‘Viking House’ and excavation site to the school playground where we experienced what it is like to be an archaeologist, by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house.

As we dug through the site, we unearthed Viking treasures and artefacts dating back 1,000 years. We learned about the lives of our Viking ancestors with the help of qualified archaeologists. We absolutely loved it!

School Tour 2022

On Wednesday, 15th June, we packed up our bags and got on a bus to Busy Bee Ceramics in Glaslough, County Monaghan, a beautiful little village. We had a lovely time throwing pots on the pottery wheel, getting lovely and mucky, with expert advice from Ria, Antonia and of course, Marmaduke the cat. After making and decorating our pots, we skipped over the road to the brand new sensory garden to explore before having a delicious lunch in Pocono cafe.

Following this, we jumped back on the bus and travelled to Rossmore Forest Park in Monaghan town. A gorgeous day for a ramble in the woods where we met a giant, who luckily wasn't feeling too hungry! We quickly escaped and spent the rest of our time in the lovely playground, zipping along on the zipwire, climbing, swinging, running and laughing until it was time to head back to school.

We had the most amazing time on our school tour and we were all feeling sleepy on the way home! A sign of a great day out!
